Founder / Music Director 
       

Alex Au Tin Yung was born in Hong Kong. He is an active composer, conductor, producer, jazz pianist and a promoter of contemporary music. He received his Master’s Degree (Distinction) in Composition at the University of York, under the supervision of Dr. Thomas Simaku. Alex’s works have been widely performed in different places including Hong Kong, Shanghai, Zhuhai, Macau, Taiwan, Italy and the U.K. His chamber work “Dao” has been selected as one of the three finalists in Duosolo Emerging Composer Competition 2011. He also worked with the Kreutzer Quartet, Sarah Watts, etc. who performed a number of his musical compositions.

 

Besides being a professional composer, Alex is an enthusiastic jazz pianist. He met one of his mentors, John Taylor, when he studied in York. Alex has also worked with a wide range of top musicians including Lonnie Williams, Ted Lo, Kazuo Takeda, Iain Ballamy and Julian Arguelles, etc and also performed in several International Jazz Festivals (Hong Kong International Jazz Festival 2009 & 2011 and Beishan International Jazz Festival 2011). Furthermore, Alex held a Jazz Piano Trio Concert in 2010 and 2015, in which he participated in composition, conducting and performing.

In recent years, Alex did a lot of research on compositional techniques regarding pitch structuring. His book “The Common Features in Music in the Extended Common Practice” was published in 2013. He is currently continuing his research on integrating electronic technology with contemporary music in a PhD in Composition at HKU, with the support of the university postgraduate scholarship. He is now working as a teaching assistant at the HKU Music Department and is also a council member of Hong Kong Composers' Guild (HKCG).

Executive Officer

      Joyce Ho Suk Yin is an experienced concert pianist and music educator. She was invited by YoCoCo to give public performances in the U.K in 2011, in which she performed a number of original compositions. As a enthusiastic educator, she has led many students to participate in large-scale inter-school music activities, competition and examination with distinction.

      Joyce is committed to the promotion of music activities, aiming to facilitate local music atmosphere. Since 2006, she has been the Music Director of Perfect Music Studio. Vice-president of Avant Music Group Association of Hong Kong in 2011.

Artistic Director

     Yip Kim Fung, currently studying his PhD in composition at DIT Dublin Conservatory for music and drama, gained his Master in Music Composition at the University of York UK. By studying from Chinese and Western mentors, Yip's work Koku has been selected in 'Up Close with Music' Ireland, in the same year another work - The dimension of Blue had been selected in a local event Sound Imagination. In 2015, Yip's piece 'Typhoon Wanda' has been selected in ICF music festival which is held by Iowa University U.S.A.
